Governor Jared Polis will discuss how Colorado is supporting technology and innovation at Boulder Startup Week today. He’ll serve as a keynote speaker at the event, ‘Technology Steers the Economy – Preparing for the Data Age.” Participants can join the digital event at 4 p.m. on 5/11. Following the webinar, meet some of the speakers for an in-person Happy Hour at Kiln’s Patio starting at 5 p.m. Kiln is located at 2101 Pearl Street in Boulder.
To attend events this week, click the join stream button on the BSW event schedule and you’ll be taken to Revnt where you can join by registering for an account. Once you’re in Revnt you can easily join each session without having to leave or open a new window.
Director of RioT, Tom Snyder, will join Governor Polis to speak about the Data Economy system. Eric Byington, Kevin Carpenter, Roland DuCote, Patrick French, Christine Shapard, Grace Doepker, Christopher Meyer, and Ashley Arigoni will also address topics on the panel. They’ll discuss innovative ways that internet connected devices, sensors, ML/AI, and Edge Computing bolster health care, manufacturing, aerospace, transportation, agriculture, energy and other industries. Panelists will be able to ask questions during the event. Making connections with entrepreneurs at BSW can provide knowledge and support for success in the startup industry.
“A lot of my career has spawned from the relationship I’ve been able to cultivate through BSW. Then I’ve started a number of companies myself, and helped other entrepreneurs avoid the costly mistakes I’ve made. Doing it yourself is so slow, but if you can introduce yourself to an expert in the field, it’s so valuable,” said Director of Partnerships at RioT Chris Meyer.
Meyer is the founder of software development company Double Bit Consulting, and Y Combinator SaaS company Start Closing. He organizes Boulder Open Coffee, which is a venue through Meetup.com for entrepreneurs to gather and share feedback about technology. As for why Governor Polis chose to speak at BSW, Meyer has a guess.
“Boulder Startup Week is a part of Techstars, which he was a founder of. The IoT and some of the work we’re doing with innovation has a special place in his heart,” said Meyer.
According to a press release from the Governor’s office: “Governor Jared Polis, a Colorado native, is an entrepreneur, education leader, and public servant. After launching his first business from his college dorm room, Polis founded several innovative online businesses, including one of the world’s leading online flower retailers, ProFlowers. Polis committed himself to making sure other Coloradans had the opportunity to pursue their dreams, and co-founded the startup incubator, TechStars, which now operates in over 30 cities worldwide.”
